Why did I create Binsoo?
Around July-August of last year (2023), I was unemployed, so I used that time to learn something new to refresh myself and forget about the negativity. Then, I thought about making my first app for my declining career (sounds pretty negative, huh?).
I also love photography—taking photos of landscapes and everyday life—but I’m not great at taking pictures of my girlfriend 🙉. Since I enjoy photography but often end up with bad shots, I usually edit my photos to make them more vibrant. So, when I started thinking about what my first app should be, this idea had the highest priority.
I had initially planned to make it in 2021 because I had previously released a repo related to photo editing for React Native: https://github.com/baronha/react....
Considering the technical aspects and costs, this was a feasible side project.
Why did I name my app Binsoo?
That was also the day I started writing the first lines of code after a walk. At that time, I didn’t have much money because I was unemployed, so my girlfriend and I just roamed the streets of Saigon and decided not to spend anything until the end of the day. The weather in Vietnam was quite hot, and I only had about $15 left for spending until August. So, as fate would have it, we decided to eat a Korean dessert called “Bingsu.” After paying, the cost was $10 🥶🥶🥶, and that night I decided to name my app Binsoo (a homophone) to commemorate the moment.
